The Thatched Barn
The "Thatched Barn" at Wilton can be hired out for special occasions. It is a fifteenth century oak framed and brick barn with a thatched roof. It has a unique character all of its own having been a forge, a workshop and a grain store before the twentieth century. It became a grain thrashing shed as that became mechanised in the 1950s and a potato store in the 1960s.
It has been given a new lease of life, re-thatched last year and has light and heating so be used all year round. It is a great venue and has been used for several weddings, Christenings and parties, as well as local social gatherings.
It is available to hire at very competitive rates. The owners are flexible with lighting, power, parking and can assist with event planning if you require it. For more details contact us on 01672 870266 or holiday@farmcottage-marlborough.com.
Sustainable Credentials
The materials used to insulate the building mean that very little heat is required. However, the heat and hot water that is supplied will come from our renewable energy Biomass Boiler situated in the centre of our farm yard.
The supply of water comes from the farm bore-hole which runs in the aquifers deep below the farm. The water is filtered through several thousands of tonnes of chalk so it is pure and free of any chlorine or other pollutants found in piped water. We have 2 x 50 KVA systems of photo voltaic cells on the barn adjacent to the Holiday Let so we produce our own electricity and what we do not use on the farm and in the holiday let goes into the national grid.
Waste Disposal
The property has a recycling box and a wheelie bin from the council. They should be put out with the owners bins and recycling at the bottom of our drive every Thursday. We ask that vegetable peelings are put separately as we have pet pigs on the farm whom we like to give peelings to.
