Location Between the Pewsey Vale and the North Wessex Downs
Manor Farm, Wilton
The farm is sat in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on the end of the Pewsey Vale, where the land rises up to meet the North Wessex Downs. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through the centre of the farm which is surrounded by history that helps shape its landscape. It is crisscrossed with footpaths, bridleways and open grass pastures so hiking, running, riding and picnicking are easy to come by.
Manor Farm has been in the Lemon family for 3 generations. David's grandfather took on the tenancy just before the second world war and was lucky enough to be able to buy the farm shortly after the war ended. The village itself is the quintessential English setting, complete with duck pond and friendly local pub. The farm lies in the heart of the village and Lyde Cottage lies in the heart of the farmyard. These days the farm is a big commercial arable enterprise running big farm machinery but there are the remnants of a bygone era with the old "Thatched Barn", Blossom the pig and countless chickens patrolling the yard.
The land was fought over by the Saxons and Vikings, and the Romans built a road straight through the middle of it. The windmill now sits on top of the hill looking over the village. We have even been visited in the night by......who knows, creating several crop circles on the farm over the past 20 years.
